Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

  • The role of a supervisor ensures the child’s safety at all times. The supervisor must remain neutral and professional, observe and record interactions in order to support visits in a respectful and non-intrusive way.

  • Supervised contact may be ordered by the court or agreed upon by families when there are concerns about safety, wellbeing, or other circumstances that require independent monitoring.

  • Reports are a factual record of what occurs during the visit. They include details such as attendance, interactions, and the general conduct of the visit. Supervisors remain neutral. Opinions or judgments are not included. Reports are shared only with the parties agreed upon beforehand, such as your solicitor, caseworker, or the Court, and are not given to extended family or third parties.

  • It is an introductory session before regular supervised visits start. It allows the child, parent, and supervisor to meet in a calm, informal setting. This helps the child feel more comfortable and gives everyone a chance to understand how visits will run. It usually involves a short meeting where I explain my role, answer any questions, and support a smooth transition into supervised contact. I try to get to know the children’s interests and have fun with them during this time.

  • Supervised visit
The supervisor remains present throughout the time the child spends with the parent or family member, ensuring safety and supporting positive interactions.

    Changeover
The supervisor manages the safe handover of the child between parents, ensuring the two parties do not have direct contact if required. The supervisor is not present during the actual time the child spends with the parent, only during pick-up and drop-off.

    • I can drive the children from one parent to the other

    • I can walk the children from one parent to the other to avoid any crossovers between the parents

    • I can supervise both parents as they pick up/drop off their child/ren

    • I will read your orders and discuss this with you so we can determine what is the best option for both the parent and child/ren.

  • One supervisor can safely supervise up to two children at a time. For children aged 12 months or under, a ratio of 1 supervisor per child (1:1) is required. If there are three or more children, or if the visit is considered high-risk, two supervisors will be required to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children.

  • No. Supervisors can arrange separate arrival and departure times, or use different entry and exit points, to avoid direct contact between parties. My aim is to create a safe, respectful environment for everyone involved.

  • The service is community-based, which means visits are held in safe, child-friendly locations within the community. The location must be agreed upon by both parties and approved by my service following a risk assessment. I encourage families to choose places that children enjoy and feel comfortable in such as play centres, libraries, parks, etc. The goal is to create a relaxed environment that supports positive interactions, while ensuring safety remains our top priority.

  • Additional family members can attend visits if agreed upon beforehand and approved within the supervision arrangement.

  • The child’s wellbeing is always the priority. If a child is distressed or unwilling to attend, I will manage the situation sensitively. The child’s needs and feelings are considered, and this will be noted in the report. Supervisors cannot force a child to attend a visit against their wishes.

  • The party who made the booking is responsible for the payment. If a cancellation occurs within 48 hours of the scheduled visit, the full fee will still apply as the time has been allocated to your family.

  • Payment is required in advance to confirm and secure your booking. Visits cannot proceed unless payment has been made prior to the scheduled date. Payment must be made at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled visit to secure your booking. Visits cannot proceed unless payment has been received. For ongoing arrangements, payments may be made weekly or fortnightly in advance by agreement.

  • Yes. Locations can be changed if both parties agree and the new location is assessed and approved by me. Any change must allow enough time for me to complete a risk assessment to ensure the environment is safe, suitable, and child-friendly. I encourage families to choose places that support the child’s comfort and wellbeing. Please note that once the intake interview is completed, my service does not facilitate negotiations about visit locations. Any discussions or agreements about changes must be managed directly between the parents and/or their legal representatives

  • As I run this service independently, I kindly ask that you provide at least 48 hours notice if you need to cancel a visit. This ensures I have enough time to adjust my schedule.

If less than 48 hours notice is given, the full fee for the booking will still apply, as the time has been set aside exclusively for your family.
